We tried this restaurant because the one we intended on going to (Dora on sherbrooke), was closed.
The decor is very tacky and the place was empty, just us (my bf, my mom and I), and 2 other ppl. They serve foccacia before the meal, which was nice. Actually, it was the best and only good thing I ate there. I ordered the lasagna with ceasar salad from the table d'hote, my bf got the chicken parmigiana and my Mom got a chicken salad. My ceasar salad should've been a tell tale sign of what the evening had in store. The romaine lettuce was yellow, the croutons were the cheapest kind you can buy from the grocery store (the tiny white bread ones w no spice whatsoever), and it was dredged in sauce. The sauce was gross. It had a horrible taste and texture. The salad tasted exactly like it looked, awful. When our main courses arrived it was another huge disappointment. My lasagna wasn't even a lasagna. It was basically lasagna noodles that looked like they were broken by hand before being cooked, some pieces were tiny and bite sized, others were longer, and they were just all over the plate and covered in sauce. The sauce was bland and tasteless and in between the noodles was this creamy cheesy something. It was so bad. It looked like a mess on a plate, not by any means a lasagna. My bfs food was a little better by comparison, because it wasnt bad per se, but it was bland and tasteless. My moms salad was a disgrace. Slices of chicken (not grilled) lying on top of that same yellow romaine with a few slices of pink tomatoes. Thank god the portions are really small. Its like they know ahead of time you wont like it. I had to salt, pepper and chili my food to give it some kind of flavor and ate what I could because I was starving. When I looked down at the hot chili peppers, I noticed they were grey and not even slightly red. When we told the waitress the food was not good, she asked if I was Italian. As if only italians know good food, or have a right to complain in their disgrace of an italian restaurant. Im half italian but thats besides the point. She then said "well your in the east end" as if that justifies the horrible food, and that I should tell the chef. Isnt that your job? She then took my half eaten lasagna away saying if I eat more Ill have to pay for it, which was fine I wasnt trying to get anything for free. She then came back to say the chef was mad I ddnt like his "lasagna" and that if I want dessert she'll give it to me without telling him. So yes, we were charged anyway, but I don't even care about that, I'm glad she took that embarrassment of a supposed lasagna away because right now the little that I ate is not even sitting right in my stomach. She brought us tiramisu after warning us that it comes in a glass as if that would be the deal breaker... It was basically one lady finger in a champagne flute full of marscapone cream. The first few bites were good, until you lose your one lady finger under the cream, then it's pretty much a disgusting, creamy mess.
When I commented to the waitress that the chilis were grey, she said: "I work with what I have that's y I asked you if you wanted the chilis in oil." Chilis in oil are good on bread or pizza, who covers their lasagna in oil? She says you put it on everything.... Ok.... right...
This was by far the wort dining experience Ive ever had. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. I love how theyve disabled reviews on restomontreal.com. I think the chef has serious issues. He should really consider calling restaurant makeover before it's too late. I would give this restaurant no stars but that doesnt seem to be an option.
